Subject: Any opinions on the GeForce 7950GT?
OS: XP Media Center 2004
CPU/Ram: Core 2 E6400/1024MB Ram
Model/Manufacturer: Dell XPS410
Comment:
I'm considering purchasing a Pci-e 7950GT 256MB for $190 after rebate. It's a foxconn. For the money it seems like a very good card to get. A significant upgrade from my x1300Pro. I considered getting an ATI x1950XT which is just a little more expensive and a bit "better" than the 7950GT. I'm leaning towards the 7950GT because the reviews I read for the Radeon weren't that flattering as far as heat issues and workmanship went. Any opinions?

How about an 8800GTS 384M? I've seen them for as little as $280 after rebate. You'd get significantly better performance and DX10 full capability.

Otherwise, the 7950 is a pretty good card, but the X1950XT looks like it significantly beats it in performance.

I dunno about FoxConn as far as quality goes. I know their motherboards aren't very good.

I never really considered the 8800, but after u mentioned it I did a little research and found this

http://www.legitreviews.com/article...

Not quite 384M, but 320, and XFX quality. The extreme model goes for $310. I wasn't really looking to go out of my $200 price range, but the DX10 plays heavily in favor of the extra C-note, plus the XFX name.

I have to measure my case's innards to see if this baby will fit, but aside from that the only thing I have to worry about is my PSU. My XPS410 has 375W. According to the review posted above, 400W is recommended.

I found this review that listed a chart of power consumption

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/H...

According to this it looks like I'm in safe waters as far as Wattage goes.

I also occurred to me I may have misunderstood what you meant by 384M.

How do you figure?!

Dude, more things in your machine use power other than your video card! That link actually proves your PSU ain't gonna cut it!!!

Yes, I meant 320M card.

I was under the impression that they were taking measurements for the entire system... basic HD, RAM, yada yada. Yeah, i guess I misunderstood the chart lol.

Even for that other link I found which I posted in the other thread you responded to. That one actually said system, which is what misled me. I guess I carried the same thought over to the second chart as well without having the experience to tell me otherwise as to what to expect for GFX cards.

Thanks for your responses.
