Starcraft is like c&c is goo. u can always look at Diablo II, I found it not bad but kinda repetitive. u can always mod your c&c games.i got bored of it until got a mod for tiberian sun and now its diffrent so i like it.

Starcraft, Age of Empires II, and Homeworld are all excellent. Earth 2150 was a very good C&C clone and Lords of the Realm was a decent variation on Warcraft.

if you like the early command & Conquers you could try Dune 2000 or Total Annihilation / Total Anihilation Kingdoms. These will be cheap now to pick up as well

Total Annihilation is a classic, been around for years and still very few games can match it. There are loads of mods around that will bring the graphics up to more modern standards and loads of unit upgrades to keep it interesting.
For a much more recent game you should try Dawn Of War, it is an excellent game and there are already additional mods available for maps and even new armies.
