When I play BF1942 sometimes when loading a map in multiplayer mode it hangs and reboots my PC. This happens about 10% of the time when I come to play. If i try to play the Desert Combat mod it happens nearly all the time. Anyone know what causes it? It does it with both ATI Radeon 9200 and Nvidia FX5200 cards - with the latest drivers. It doesnt just crash to the desktop (like most people) but reboots my machine. I have spoken to EA who don't know what is causing it. I have tried using different memory and it still happens. My m/board is an Asrock K7S8XE and the memory is 512mb PC2700 DDR. I have the latest patches of both BF1942 and Desert combat installed. I have uninstalled, reinstalled the games and it still happens. I have had this problem for about 6 months and have bought two copies of the game.I have tried two sound cards also. The problem is still here. I want to sort it out once and for all. Can anyone help? Is there some kind of diagnostic tool I can run which will show me what is going wrong and what is causing windows XP to completely crash and burn like that? My machine is not overclocked either and the processor temp is about 40 degrees. Nothing else crashes apart from this game. The graphics cards I am using are also sufficient to run BF1942 so please dont reply saying I need to spend hundreds on a better card as I know this will not fix the problem. Thanks for any help.

Try a new Power Supply??
Probably the cheapest thing to replace in your computer apart from the screws holding the case together.
Try www.ebuyer.com (for UK/USA)

Also, if you could get hold of a program like Norton Systemworks and run the included Windoctor utility, you may find that there are a few thing it'll fix for you that may have been responsible for crashing..

Hi thanks. Yes the problem used to happen in my old case aswell which had a different power supply and i bought a newer case with a window on the side and lights in.. So it isnt the power supply.
If I run systemworks the crash will not be logged as it is a hard crash and not a software crash... The computer literally bombs out - similar to me pressing the reset button, would systemworks log this??? I could try systemworks i suppose but sdoubt it will help.;
Any other suggestions?

You've tried everything else different except the motherboard and Hard Drive. Surely those are the only two possibilities left??

I am having the same problem using Desert Combat. I have the same motherboard and 512 Mb 2700 DDR RAM on a single chip. My processor is an AMD XP2800. My system has an excellent power supply and cooling system.
My video card is an ATI 9000.
I have tried other types of memory, unfortunately they are all 2700 DDRs, since that is all that I have.
Unfortunately the memory chips are about $150 dollars a time, so I don't want to buy any more, unless I know that it will fix the problem.
Some memory causes the machine to crash less frequently than others.
I have tried PC diagnostic software to to try and find the cause of the crash, but unfortunately, because this is such a harsh crash with the computer abruptly appearing in the reboot cycle, there is no saved information about the cause. Windows and the diagnostic software are obviously being affected by the crash also.

well does the problem occur on other games? You may want to re-install windows and update all the neccessary drivers (system bios, agp driver, etc...)...hope this will help...post back please...
