an old racing game

can some one help me out. i remember a drag racing game from years ago that i cant remember the name of. the game is you start with a few thousand dollars and you buy a car out of the news paper. real cars too like a ford gallaxy. then you race it and use winnings to fix it up to go faster. or you can race for pink slips. i used to play it in middle school so it was about 10 or 11 years ago. i am going crazy trying to think of it. and suggestions would be very greatfull.

i remeber a game where you would just drive to like a diner or something and you would challenge people to race! you paint the car and stuff add new parts! it was pretty sweet and probably the same game your talking about! do a search or something!

yes, thats it. and the badest racer out there had a black car with flames right? i searched gamespot. i figured there i can look through quite a few racing titles for pc. i didnt see any that looked familier.
