Hey, 'm building a computer. I was going to go with the amd athlon 64 2800+, but its tooo expensive. I was wondering if the amd sempron 64 2800+ 1.8ghz is going to be enought to run games like half life 2, nfsu2, san andreas, and sims 2. thanx

The biggest thing in my mind against the Sempron is that it doesn't come in Socket 939. Therefore, you lose out on being able to upgrade to an FX-55, FX-57, or dual core on the same motherboard. It also has less cache, but right now, that doesn't really matter in gaming. It certainly is attractively priced. I think the Athlon 64 3000 Venice, because it comes in Socket 939, is the better way to go, but it's obviously more expensive. It does however overclock exceptionally well though.

The Sempron 64 2800+ would be the one to go with though...it has 256k L2, the others have 128k. The S64 3400+ has 256k but it's too expensive.

Just wait a few months, Iv read the sempron will be coming out on the 939 socket soon. Or thats what the Nforce chipset makers said somewhere.

I am not sure how long socket 939 will be running as their should be versions of the Sempron 64 & Althon 64 using the new socket M2 by Q2 of next year according to the roadmap.
