Jam, since you respond to most of my posts, I will direct this to you.

When I get the AMD 64 3000+ that I am going to purchase from my friend, I would like to overclock it some. I would need to get a new heatsink/fan to keep it cool obviously, which one would you recommend? Also, is it possible to push it close to a 3500+? I have not overclocked much so I am not familiar with how far you can push processors.

You have a different A64 version than I do, but these chips run cooler than Athlon XP's. Stock heatsink may be all you need.

Yes, you can hit close to 3500 speeds, but you have to raise the HTT to overclock it, which means your memory has to be able to sustain high clock speeds.

If you need a better heatsink/fan, Thermaltake Venus is a good choice. All copper with a fan that can go up to 72CFM, but has a rheostat so you can dial it to your preference.

Free Weasel & Sabertooth both have A64 overclocking experience. This thread is about a S754 A64 system, but it may help:

Asumiong you mean a 939 core cpu.
It mostly depends on which mobo you are going to use with it?
Also,is it a 'winchester' or a 'venice' core?
The venice is the better.
Some people are getting the 3000+ upto 2700mhz and more which is above 3500+ speeds.

IMO pc4400 from corsair is really good ram,it aslo uses tccd chips.

What RAM you should get has much to do with budget, and how high you want to overclock. Remember, your multiplier is locked, so if you want 3500 speeds, you need to hit 2.2GHz roughly.

If you are currently running at 1.8GHz I'm guessing, you're running

HTT 200MHz * 9 = 1800MHz

To hit 2.2GHz, you solve x * 9 = 2200MHz

Your RAM needs to run about 245MHz, which would mean you need at least PC3700 memory (runs up to 466MHz).

Remember that getting this RAM doesn't ensure you'll hit the mark. Your mobo or CPU may not be able to take it. You're just ensuring the RAM will be able to hit the mark.

HMMM...Maybe I should just wait, and buy a whole new setup instead of spending money on a slight upgrade. To many choices!!

Depends what core it is?
Venice or winchester?
How much?

there are ram dividers to be used so you dont really need to have pc3700.
many people are using pc3200 and getting 290x9 by using a divider.
The only hit you take is in bandwidth.

Which sorta defeats the purpose if your RAM can't go that high.

Also, be aware some motherboards don't have those dividers.

It is socket 754 which means it is either winchester or Clawhammer. The bidding starts at 120$ for the Asus K8v se deluxe motherboard, and the amd 64 3000+. hero is the first bid at 120$
