Hi,
I have a new Raedeon 9600XT 256ram and AGP X8, but my mother board only supports AGP X4, I realise the card will default back to 4 but of course I want it to go to 8, i have a appature (if thats how you spell it) to open up to 256 so the ram isnt too big to be used properly. Any way will a BIOS upgrade give me AGP 8?
my BIOS specs are:BIOS Date: 06/27/03
BIOS Type: Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS ID: 06/27/2003-P4X266E-8235-6A6LWJ19C
OEM Sign-On: V.P4XFCU A04 06-27-2003
Chipset: VIA 82C3128 rev 1
Superio: Winbond 697HF rev 2 found at port 2Eh
OS: WinXP SP2
CPU: Intel Pentium(R) 4 2400 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 256KAnd the motherboard is a Jetwat V.P4XFCU.
Anythink you can help with would be great especially a link to download a new Bios if it will help me, Ive had a quick look around and cant seem to find it on the Jetway site and Award seems to want to sell upgrades rather than give them to. I thought this was a biy odd since everyone else gives you access to driver updates quite readily... but who am i to tell them how to distribute their product..
anyway any ideas apreciated.
thanks gamers....

Um..
No.. The AGP slot is hardwear sadly a bios change will not effect that. BUT You will not notice any difference between 4X and 8X ( Or thats what I have read. ) As long as the card supports 4 X you will b e good.Processor P4@ 2.6 Ghz, FSB@535Mhz
RAM 512MB's PC2700/32001 256 stick of each. Hard Disk Drives 1 40 GB HD 1 10 GB HD CD/DVD Drives CDRW52X

Hi,
thanks for that, I thought that might be the case, Although I did find a upgrade on the Jetway site after all,it is to suport the new DDR ram, so I upgraded anyway, Ive been trying to hold off getting a new Mother Board because I know as soon as i get a better board i will buy a faster processer... then faster ram... then a faster and bigger hard drive ....and ...and.. well you can see where im going... As mutch as i want to build a new gaming machine... I dont want to stretch the budged. It never ends does it...LOL
Thanks.

For the most part, a 256MB card is a waste of money. Most get beat by the 128MB version of the same card. The main reason is the RAM used in the 256MB cards is usually of a higher latency, therefore slower
BTW, try the aperture size at 128MB, not 256MB

There is NO WAY u could upgrade ur mobo speed form 4X to 8X.The best option is to get a new mobo with 8X speed.Nowaday u can choose a vriaty of mobo with lower price.

The difference between 4X & 8X is minimal...don't waste your money on a new board. Make sure you've installed the motherboard chipset drivers

I have some problems with the AGP slot i think :
-Motherboard Name Shuttle AK32A-Award BIOS Type Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG
-CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 1666 MHz (12.5 x 133) 2000+
-DIMM2: GeIL CL25-3-3DDR 400 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-6 @ 200 MHz) (2.0-3-3-5 @ 166 MHz)
-Video adapter:ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350)
And after I play some games with not much sistem requirments it's blocks suddently and only what i can do is reboot , sometimes whet i open to much windows on my desktop it's blocks suddently , when 2 or 3 sounds are playng at the same time for example in Counter Strike : weapon shot , radio : Roger that! and headshot from server it's blocks or sometimes ony i listen to winamp some music ... and suddently it blocks
what it's wrong ? btw my video card and DDram are new i both them last month ... maybe the mainboard ... the AGP slot in it please help
