I'm still torn between totally upgrading to PCI, or just beefing up my current AGP rig.
I have
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
1gig ram
Radeon 9800 Pro.I'm thinking about getting
P4 3.8Ghz
2gig ram
Radeon X850XT PE 256MB AGP DVI-I VIVOAs far as I know (admitedly not much), this is pretty much as good as it get with AGP based mobo's.
How long would this (upgraded) rig roughly last me?? Would the difference be very obvious??
My current setup still seem to handle any graphic intense game pretty well. Would this new planned setup be able to handle new games like FEAR with the graphical bangs and whistle turned on??
More importantly, how long would this rig last me??
Like I previously said, price is not an issue as I can get EVERYTHING for cost price
Hell no!

if you really want a gaming machine get a xbox 360 or ps3 lot more cheaper but if you want to upgrade your pc :P4 3.8Ghz: bit over the top but would make your games run fast would you overclock to 4ghz but i did not know you could get 3.8ghz pet 4s anyway but you can try it :)
2gig ram :
dual channel or single and by the way most games only need 1 gig at the most so your ram should rock :)graphics card:
i do not know that much about graphics card but i heard a rummor that theres gunna be a 512mb graphics card soon so i would wait and see but if money is not a issue and you can upgrade later that graphics card looks good (but i dont know very much about them)
how long would this rig last me?
hard to say that rig looks pretty close to being the best one i have seen so i would of thought it will last you a long while.
Would the difference be very obvious:
yes and no if you are play doom or any game that hogs your system yes but no if you are just surfing the internet or playing music.ps. have you had a look at amd. also the xbox 360 would have three core 3.2 prosserers so if your just gamming i would reconmend that
hope this post helps
please post back

Are you just gonna keep asking this question until someone tells you what you wanna hear? This is at least the 3rd time you've asked & the majority have told you not to waste your money...the 9800 Pro is still an excellent card. Paraphrasing what hero said in a previous thread...if you spend $250 on a new card, you're not gonna get a $250 improvement, but hey, it's your money to waste.

You want to upgrade every component just so you can get a little more life out of a (nearly) obsolete platform? You could just add a PCI Express motherboard to your list of components to upgrade and have the same (or better) performance with room to upgrade later. The only other thing you might need would be a better power supply.
So the options are:
Stay with AGP:
- New Processor
- New RAM
- New Video CardSwitch to PCI-x:
- New Processor
- New RAM
- New Video Card
- New MotherboardWhere's the confusion?

Just stop asking and waste your money already....
Windows Xp Pro x64
AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8ghz
1 Gig Ram pc2700
Nforce 4 Motherboard
Radeon X700 256mb
Realtek Ac 97 Onboard Audio
Thermaltake 430W Power Supply

An AGP P4 system would use the socket 478, so your fastest CPU would be the 3.4ghz "C" Northwood core. Your current CPU is more than fast enough, so I wouldn't upgrade the CPU.
Dare I say it?

Or.. You could ask the same question as many times as you like on another forum and not get abuse hurtled at you just like everybody else does when a questions asked on this forum. When will you guys get it into your head that not everybody is an expert when it comes to PC's. Thats why we have forums so the none experts can ask the questions that they want the answers to. If people worked a little harder to give a good answer rather than trying to big it up with abuse then people may not need to ask the same questions.
Life's too short so get one.
You know who I'm talking about.

Just go ahead & buy it...you know you want to. There's no need to ask for our approval. Follow doug's advice, "Just stop asking and waste your money already...."
