CAn't make out that screen shot. Have you tried reinstalling the graphics drivers? Better yet, have you installed the latest drivers from nVidia? Have you reinstalled DX9?

It really bothers me when I see so many people saying stuff like, "I was having problems so I formatted". Formatting is the very LAST thing you should do after all other fixes have been tried.

When installing new drivers, the old one have to uninstalled 1st...& any anti-virus program must be shutdown during installation. That's clearly stated at the nVidia website.

Have you updated your motherboards chipset drivers?

If you have an nforce chipset i highly reccomend you do not get the latest 5.10 but stick to 4.24 instead.

I had a few different problems arise after updating from 4.24 to 5.10 so I reverted back to 4.24 and problems were solved.

Not sure what board you have, but I probably should have asked earlier.

The SiS730 is an older integrated chipset with onboard graphics...it supports SDR-SDRAM (single data rate PC100/133) & has onboard graphics. It only supports up to 4X AGP.

Your problem is probably related to conflicts with the onboard graphics, or the fact that you're trying to run an 8X AGP card (AGP spec 3.0) on an 4X AGP (AGP spec 2.0) board. They're supposed to be backwards compatible, but it doesn't always work that way....

thank you very much for the info. i went into my bios settings, and there are the following settings which i am unsure about:
Primary Graphics Adapter - currently set to Onboard AGP but gives option for PCI.

Allocate IRQ to pci vga = Currently set to YES, but gives option for no

PCI Busmaster = currently set to disabled, but gives option for enabled.
do these things mean anything to you? they seem correct to me?
thanks
Gaetan

The manual that I found says your board only supports up to 100mhz (200FSB). Is your 2200+ running at the correct speed of 1800mhz (13.5 x 133mhz)? or is it running at 1350mhz (13.5 x 100mhz)?

"PCI Busmaster = currently set to disabled, but gives option for enabled" - try enabling it

its currently set to the default of 1350mhz (13.5 x 100mhz). But there is an option to make it 1800mhz, but if i do that, system gets hot, and errors start appearing. i will try enabling it.

I believe your problem is you're trying to run hardware on a motherboard that doesn't officially support it.

Your board was not designed to run an Athlon XP CPU...it supports 200 FSB Durons & Athlons only. And it was not designed to run an 8X video card. I suggest you get a new motherboard.

If the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra is still available by the time you read this, I'd jump on the deal for $33!

thank you for your advice:-) unfortunately, i am in England and would be a bit expensive to order from the US. I have decided to buy a new motherboard/cpu/ram bundle as i need a big upgrade anyway. Thanks for all your help everyone, you've been very helpful :-)
