Hi, I play Age of Empires II on my home LAN of 3 machines (1.2GHz, 1.4GHz and a P233MMX). The network is CAT5 ethernet (10/100) connected thru a 10/100 hub.
Periodically we get sometimes quite lengthy pauses in gameplay. Is this likely to be due to any TCP packet size setting I can alter, any services periodically polling the network, or something else? Is there a solution?

Nope, tried it with just the 2 1.2/4GHz machines and it still happens.

I would replace the hub with a switch and not a switchable hub. I would bet that is the source of your problems.
