Subject: Age of Empires II CPU usage 100% OS: Windows XP CPU/Ram: Intel Centrino 1.86 Ghz,

Comment: Hi, I bought a new laptop 3 weeks ago, it is a toshiba satellite Intel Centrino 1.86GHz and 512MB ram and a GeForce 6600 go, I like age of empires 2 a lot and I installed it but when I play after a few minutes, the game freezes, I hit Alt+tab and run system monitor, it shows that i was using 100% of the cpu and that the game was not responding... suddently that changes and I go back to the game play 1 minute or so and it happens again... I hit alt+ tab and see the same, I go back and the game restarts... it is so annoying that the game freezes and I can't even play for 10 minutes... I ran spyware check with adware, spybot, I saw microsoft's site for troubleshooting, started the game with a clean boot and nothing... Please Help!! P.S: I have other games like warcraft 3, battle for middle earth and command conquer generals and they run smoothly... what the hell is happening...

Reply: (edit)You have a Pentium-M. Centrino is the name of the hardware package, not the CPU. Have you run MSCONFIG from the Start menu & stopped unnecessary programs from loading at startup & hogging resources? Another 512MB of RAM wouldn't hurt either ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP2

Reply: (edit)Sorry, it is pentium M, actually, I don't know what is going on... I installed directx 9.0c, my nvidia drivers are 78.01, and I did a clean boot of my laptop with MSCONFIG as the microsoft site tells you... I reinstalled the game in the clean boot and the same thing happens.... When I hit alt+tab the task manager shows that age 2 isn't responding... and when I switch back to it, the game continues but after a few seconds this happens again... I can go like that for ever.. this happens in multiplayer games as well on single player deathmatch. I also tried the commands NoTerrain sounds and all of them but still get the same pattern.. please help

Reply: (edit)im running a pentium 3 @1ghz and i rarely get 100%cpu usage from AOE2, it touches 100% in a multiplayer game with 8 civilizations but other than that it seems fine. i also dont understand whats wrong.
