Your Celeron and FX5500 wont quite run AOE3 well anyway. I have 5700XT (lend it to my friend) but havent try the game on it, i'm not sure that 5500 was supported. Anyway, have your tried updating your driver?

Do you any Coolbits forceware to overclock? if you do then lower your clockspeed to the default value. Try to put both Antialiasing and Anisotrophy to off.

Also check the type of interface whether its PCI or AGP mode. If its PCI mode but you're using AGP card, update your motherboard driver to the latest version.

Check also in dxdiag
"START->RUN->dxdiag"
whether your FX5500 card was enabled with all options.

Oh another one, if you dont have Coolbits forceware you can get one from here

http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloa...

and force the monitor refresh rate on all mode to 60 or 75Hz.

There can be a possibilities where the refresh rate of the game exceeds what your monitor can handle. Happens to me with XIII game before.

Updated motherboard driver.
Checked dxdiag all options enabled.
Downloaded and installed coolbits.
Went to nvidia control panel refresh rate of monitor on 60 tried all higher settings blank screen then reverts back to 60 Hz.
Dont know where to set Antialiasing and Anisotrophy
Never tried overclocking not in computer career little bit i know self taught with trial and lots of error.
Seems best thing to do might be to upgrade system.
Thanks a lot
