I have bought far cry recently but can only run it on medium settings exept for the water settings which is the highest. If i try and up the levels anymore the game becomes unplayable. Based on my specs below does this sound right to you.

Amd Athlon 3000 processor
Asus Deluxe-E motherboard
512k DDR 333 Ram
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 128mb graphics card

Well I can run it perfectly with highest settings (no AA or AF) @ 1024x768 on these specs.....

Athlon 2600
9800 Pro
512Mb DDR 333

So you should be able to max the settings out too. Make sure your card is set for NO Anti-aliasing or Anisotropic Filtering.

Some people are like Slinkies?, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

I have got it running an a Geforce 5600 128meg. I will tell you, you may be running into issues of timings and ram settings now. I went into the bios and changed a bunch of settings and now it is running fine.

Issues of timings? Ram settings? Do you mean I should increase the graphics aperture size from 64mb to 128mb?

So, I have 2x 256mb PC2700 (333mhz), what timinigs should they be at? The default was 2.5. Is that right?
Plus what happens if I increase it to 3.0?

Ok. here's what I did...

Go into DRAM timings.

BURST LENGTH = 8QW (default is 4 on my mobo)
1T COMMAND ENABLED (default disabled)
FAST COMMAND set to FAST (turbo failed 4 me)
R2R TURNAROUND ENABLED (default disabled)

THEN in AGP settings

FastWrites ENABLED
read w/s disabled
write w/1 disabled
synchronise also disabled.

My machine percked up in general when I did all of this to the memory. The agp stuff I just did as an experiment to see difference. Not sure if that better or not, but memory stuff DEFINITELY makes things faster, as advised in the manual, all settings are set to faster than the default.

FYI I am on an Athlon 2500 333bus, 512 meg pc2700 and same card of course. Also drive is a raid 2+0 stripe. Anyhow. It runs pretty near perfect with everything but one setting on highest at 1024x768. Gets a little jerky from time to time. Oh, and also, before you load, shut down EVERY program you have running. None of that AIM or netmeeting crap running in the background.

Works a treat for NFS underground too (well the demo anyway).

I'm not tight, just wait for the prices to drop from $40 to $20 :-)

I can run on high settings at 1024 x 768 on a 2400+, 3 year old motherboard and 512Mb pc133 ram with an overclocked 9600se. I do get an occasional hiccup when firing a weapon but that's all.

FC wants to run on all medium settings and game play is glitch free there...just less eye candy.

I also think it's time to make sure nothing is running in the background while you play the game.

I have an MSI board.

DO you have no option for dram timings?

NFS is $20 here now (about 12 quid) in Elec Boutique. But I am sure it is cheaper elsewhere.

This is what I can see in my ASUS Rev 1011 Bios:

SDRAM Active Purcharge Delay: 7
SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay: 3
SDRAM RAS Purcharge Delay: 3
SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

Can you make heads or tails of that? Plus does anything need to be changed?

Cheers for the help.

CAS latency is basically your ram's speed. You could try and change it, but I believe will make your system unstable.

On RAS to CAS read this...
