I have a 6600GT(256 AGP), 1.5GHZ (decent ram), 2.8ghz proc, 200gb hd, 600w psu, sound blaster live 24bit sound card, and a Pioner 16x16 DVD/Burner. Can someone please explain for me how I less than 10 FPS in games such as CS 1.6 running at a s---ty resolution? sometimes it will run fine for a little bit then it just goes back to s---ty fps. It does this for any game. Any ideas?

Hmm, sounds like a graphics card issue. Has it always been like that? Have you checked your image settings in display properties to make sure AA is not 8x etc. Also reset your bios and install your latest motherboard AGP drivers.

Generally the drivers are the chipset drivers or will actually say AGP on them. Also, the reason I mention reset bios is that AGP FastWrite, Window Size and AGP speed can all make a huge difference if your card is not compatible with certain settings.

Make sure FastWrite is turned off in your BIOS.

Install either the executable or zipped format for your 865PE chipset. When you are done with that you may also turn off HyperThreading in the BIOS if you have that option and see if you get any improvement in your FPS.

If infact you do get more FPS after disabling HyperThreading you may want to re-enable it and turn it off in Windows based on the games you want it off for (see below).

0. Open the game , but don't go any futher than the main menu screen.

1. Press Alt+Tab to minumize the game in the toolbar.

2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the "task manager" window on your desktop.

3. Select the "processes" tab.

4. Scroll down the list and find the games .exe file (make sure you know which one it is) on the list. Then right click on it and select "set affinity"

5. Uncheck the 2nd CPU on the list.

6. Close all the windows and click on the game in your taskbar to bring it back up.

You should also install the latest drivers for your 6600GT

Goodluck.

I have recently encountered the very same problem, however in a strange context. What I did was:

I unplugged every cable from my computer because I was moving it from spot A to B in my living room. I then put it all back together again, cept for my printer and varous other connections to 3rd parties (ipod, cell phone etc). When I turned my computer back on again I have low FPS on every game I got. I've tried new graphic drivers, defragging, disk cleanup etc. I DID remove and re-insert my graphic card in the process, however I cant see how this can cause any problem. Anyone know what could posibly have happend when I moved my computer? It's a bugger playing World of Warcraft with 5fps:-(

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrageful. We've been doing so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.
