"A complaint filed in a U.S. District Court in Illinois by Robert E. Byers alleges that Microsoft designed a power supply and a CPU into the Xbox 360 that run too hot and overheat, causing the console to freeze or lock up when being operated. The design defect is "material" because "it renders the Xbox 360 game consoles completely inoperable," according to court documents filed December 2."
"Some Xbox 360 users said the console would crash when loading games or after users played a game for only a short period of time, while others claimed that the consoles would freeze up and put scratches in game CDs. Still others reported scrambled screens and other signs that indicated the console was not working properly."
"Microsoft is offering to repair defective consoles as quickly as possible and will pay for overnight shipping both from consumers and back to them once consoles have been repaired, he said." (from PCworld.com)

WOW! nice job, microsoft. i think i will just wait for the PS3. its coming out in Spring 2006. PS 3 sounds good, with 3.2GHZ CPU, it support both ps and ps2 games, and uses blue ray. a dual side blue ray dvd can store up to 54GB(Dang!) thats almost 3 times bigger than my HD. LOL! The PS3 is going to support the highest hi-def display resolution of 1080p, on up to two HD screens. Other inputs include: 6 USB 2.0 ports, SPDIF audio, two HDMI ports, and memory card slots.
also, The console will have 512KB of L2 cache, and it comes with 256MB of main memory (up from a mere 32MB on the PS2) and 256MB of GDDR3 VRAM (video memory). It will also have NVidia's RSX Reality Synthesizer, which Sony says has the power of two of NVidia's top-of-the-line gaming cards, the NVidia 6800 Ultra graphics card.

LOL! microsoft was rush to market. Microsoft made the Xbox 360 available to consumers before it was properly designed in order to release the console before companies such as Sony and Nintendo made competitive products available. LOL!

That's what I love about consoles...

"It will also have NVidia's RSX Reality Synthesizer, which Sony says has the power of two of NVidia's top-of-the-line gaming cards, the NVidia 6800 Ultra graphics card."

That's not top of the line even now, and come next year, it REALLY won't be top of the line. :-)

Meh

If the PS3 launch is anything like the PS2 launch, you'll see to following:

1 tepid launch offerings (what launched with the PS2 again?)
2 buggy hardware and defective components (DVD failures, numerous other hardware problems)
3 disappointing performance (antialiasing problems)
4 undeveloped features (HDD, Sony online)
5 flat out lies from marketing (the "Emotion Engine" will render Toy Story in realtime)
6 insufficient units at launch

Add to this potential problems with the PS3 specifically:

1) unproven and arcane cell architecture
2) notorious difficulty in coding for PS3
3) first-generation everything hardware (Blu-ray drives, cell processor, proprietary GFX card design)
4) odd general silver-paper-shredder design aesthetic with possibly very uncomfortable controllers
5) Sony's general recent financial and quality problems
6) An unspecified but "very high" price
7) Nebulous launch date
8) Apparently the same online capabilities as the PS2

I wouldn't expect too much out of the PS3 just yet.

Not saying the 360 launch was flawless - they have a weak launch lineup and insufficient supply. Their reverse compatibility leaves a lot to be desired as well. My understanding is that the number of defective units is about on par with console standards.

Also - no way two 6800 Ultras are going to push 60fps at 1080p, much less on two monitors.
