So everything is running fine on the new system. Plugged in my portable hard drive to a USB port the other day and I got a pop up that stated the USB ports are running at 1.1. Loaded up SiSoft Sandra to verify that the ports are indeed running at 1.1.

I've checked around quite a bit and it seems that this should not be occuring since I upgraded to SP2 (USB 2.0 was available in SP1).

Any ideas in how to address this problem?

I think that I may have found a solution. A patch was issued for SP1 regarding 1.1 and 2.0.

I suppose one thing that I could try is to uninstall sp2, downgrade to sp1, apply the patch and see what happens.

Thoughts?

That's not a good idea.

Have you checked the BIOS to see if the USB controller is set to USB1.1+2.0?

Also, if you're plugging the drive into a front USB port or USB header, try plugging the drive into the soldered on USB ports (near the KB/mouse, etc.).

You wouldn't be using a 1.1 hub, would you?

Just to follow up on this. Hero was right. I checked the bios and the mobo has 1.1 and 2.0 ports. Doesn't make much sense to me, eh.
