Hi, I'm looking into buying a decent mainstream video card for gaming also my budget is around $275 and under So now I can't decide between the Sapphire ATI RADEON HD 4850 512MB and the XFX GeForce 8800GT chipset (670Mhz) 512MB (1.95Ghz) In both cards price isn't really a matter but my main concern is performance also if there are any other good video cards for under $275 please let me know. And also I heard that the ATI card has compatibility issues with COD4 so will I be at a disadvantage when COD5 (world at war) comes out if I go with the ATI card?
My other concern is that will my 430W PSU handle these cards or will I need to go for something bigger but my 8500GT right now is working fine on this PSU and also my CPU which is 2.4 GHz is overclocked to 3GHz on this PSU.
The 8500GT is a very low end card. If you move up to an 8800GT or HD4850, you will most likely need to upgrade the PSU. And if your CPU is a single core P4, it will bottleneck a high end video card.
The 8800GT sells for under $150, the HD4850 can be had for about $170. Figure another $75-100 for a decent PSU. That covers your $275 budget. Check newegg.com
