Curious if anyone has done the research and has suggestion on the biggest bang for the buck at this time. The 8800 series is smoking but the ultra version is pricey, 6 to 7 hundred frogskins to be in the ballpark. Curious if anyone thinks two of the gts or two of the gtx versions would be much more economical and which would be the best performance for the cabbage. Thanx in advance for any suggestions.

The 8800GT is by far the best value right now. It was actually just launched yesterday. The 512MB 8800GT is only around $200-220, yet it:

-performs only around 3% slower than the 8800GTX, thanks to its 112 stream processors
-Is faster than both the 8800GTS-640MB and HD2900XTX
-Is much faster than the 8800GTS-320MB in DX10 games.
-Is much, much faster than the similarly-priced 8600GTS
-Uses far less power than the 8800GTS.
-Is PCIe 2.0 compliant.
-has the PureVideo 3.0 video processing engine, absent from both the 8800GTS and GTX.

Without a doubt, the 8800GT is the video card you should be buying for a gaming machine these days.

The Movie PC:
Pentium III-S CPU: 1.66GHz, 158MHz FSB, 512K
2GB DDR333
7950GT AGP
Vista/XP
X-Fi
Optoma 1280x720 projector
JBL 5.1 audio
and now 89 upconverted WMV-HD flicks

My suggestion...pony up the dough. Who cares if its expensive. I'm running 2 8800GTX's in SLI with a Kentsfield processor, and it KICKS #@*! Running any game I want with highest settings w/ no lag. life's too short, especially if you are my opponent in a fps...luv ya

It's your money, but IMHO, spending $1000+/- on two video cards just to be able play a games on the highest settings is a waste of money. But since you apparently have so much money to waste, how come you're only running 2GB RAM? And why haven't you "ponied up the dough" for Vista Ultimate? DX10 is not coming to XP anytime soon, if at all. I would think you'd wanna take full advantage of your video card "investment".

BTW, in another thread (see response #8), you claim to have only one 8800GTX...which is it?

1. 2gb ram?...why would I need 4gb???
2. Vista Ultimate? More issues than Time Magazine...DX10 WILL come to XP, and Windows is releasing ANOTHER os in 09 to 10.
3. btw? 2, but 1 is a better answer for response #8
4. luv ya, and sorry for the delayed response
