Hi,

I just bought a 6600GT 128mb and I've been trying to overclock it. The core clock was 300mhz and the memory clock was 900mhz and I ran the 3dMark05. It gave me 3002. I bumped up each clock 60mhz and the 3dMark05 was 3082. I originally bumped up the clocks 10mhz each and that benchmark was 3013. Then when I restarted my computer it went back to default settings even though I saved it and applied the new clocks. Am I doing something wrong? Is it worth overclocking with such small differences? I am running XP Home, P4 2.66ghz and 1gb of ram. Any information anyone can give me on overclocking will help me so much, thanks.

If your using RivaTuner make sure you tick the "Apply overclocking at windows startup box" which is located in the start up section....and then at bottom press "Apply" it should save your settings the next time you re-boot.

Yea, I did, but for some reason after I restarted it went back to the default settings.

Is the Enable Driver-level hardware overclocking box ticked and RivaTuner set to performance 3D?

The box is ticked but it's set to standard 2D...Should I change this to performance 3D? Will that overwork my card too much? Can you explain what that means? Thanks.

I have the same card as you and mine is set to 3D performance with no problems so the core clock is 500 and the memory clock is 900 and its stable, just make sure you maintain enough ventilation to your unit so as to keep the temp down by way of 80cm fans or whatever i have 2 at the rear and 2 at the front plus 1 on the side panel but 1 back and 1 front is enough

Right now I think I only have 1 fan...I haven't added any since I bought the computer, so I only have whatever came with it. If I add another fan will it make it louder? Right now, since I put in the new card, the computer is pretty loud and I was trying to find a way to make it silent like it used to be. Also, I'm not sure exactly how to put in a new fan. I'll try looking online but maybe you could give me a few tips of what type of fan is good and how to install it. Thanks a lot.
