Hi
maybe he shouldve bought the 7300'gt'?the 6600gt pulls about 3250 on 3dmark05
the 7300gs approx 2150so its all about gpu power, swap cards to see.

"the 6600gt pulls about 3250 on 3dmark05"
We are comparing 6600 to 7300gs, not 6600gt to 7300gs... Anyways, your 6600 has 300Mhz core @ 8pipeline and 500Mhz 128bit memory vs the 7300gs only has 550Mhz core @ 4 pipeline and 533Mhz 64 bit memory. So you if do some simple math here...
8 bit = 1 byte MP = Mega Pixels
6600 Fill rate = 300 x 8 = 2400MP/sec
Memory bandwidth = 500 x (128/8) = 8000MB/sec7300gs Fill rate = 550 x 4 = 2200MP/sec
Memory bandwidth = 533 x (64/8) = 4264MB/sec6600gt Fill rate = 500 x 8 = 4000MP/sc
Memory bandwidth = 1000 x (128/8) = 16000MB/secBased on the above spec, the 6600 runs faster than 7300gs and 6600gt is even faster..
"maybe he shouldve bought the 7300'gt'?"
You mean 7600gt? If you want to play the current games, at least buy a 7600gt or x1800 above...

I have to dis-agree. I have a vanilla 6600, 300mhz core and 400mhz memory. I play prey, battlefield 2, oblivion etc, etc and I get no lag what-so-ever. When it gets to the point that It will no longer play the new games, I've always got the overclocking headroom. I didn't realise the GT performed so much better though!

Try to play oblivion at 1280x1024 full setting with HDR with your 6600... Check your FPS during out doors and it will be below 10fps... If you are satisfy with low resolution and low to medium setting for the newer games out there, then yes, 6600 is enough for you. In fact, if you do not mind to play games at 640x480 with all details off, then integrated grahic also is not a bad choice for you either.

You must have a mysterious 6600 there buddy!

You having a bit more RAM is also helpfull, 512Mb isnt really enough for people who use their computers for tasks like gaming anymore. 1Gb is pretty much mainstream now and many people are going for 2Gb nowdays too.

thanx for ll ur replys but is a 7300 gs better than a 6600 or worse or is it just cause i have 256 Mb more ram than his?

As TMP-Man pointed out the 6600 is better than te 7300gs. The 7300's are a pretty dodgy card. You having 256Mb more RAM is also a factor, so its a mixture of both. But I suspect that if you had 512Mb of ram your computer would still be better than his at gaming because of your graphics card.

Also I would like to ask if more ram would help me with my games. If i got a 1 Gb stick and i put my 512 with it and made 1.5 Gb of ram would that solve lag in games such as Quake 4.

theres no point in quoting all that guff, all chalk and cheese, ones a decent gaming graphics the other clearly is not.as for the 6600gt well okay i didnt have the figures (non gt) to hand but its a good enough comparison just to answer the op.
& yes i meant 7300GT geforce, 8 pipes 350/667 OC to 475/900 (may be wrong on latter not sure) ether way it even puts the Ati X1600 in the shade on perf/cost
There about £56 here thats dam cheap for that performance.http://www.ausfx.com/reviews/NVIDIA/Inno3D7300GT.php
gmanych
putting more ram in may help a bit, but you want better performance all round starting with upgrading the cpu to something equivalent to your friends or better, the Athlon1800 is past its best for new games.
Possibly depends on your mobo bios but a barton XP3200 would be better, or start afresh new mobo cpu etc.
your bottleneck is the cpu , your friends is his graphics card.regards

I read the reviews, turns out its 2x 7300gt running in SLI mode and only got ~5k in 3DMark05. If you do get a 7600gt, easily surpass that ~5k barrier...
Lets do some math here, 7300Gt cost $200 CAD each according to the article while the 7600GT cost $300 CAD. So by getting 2x 7300GT @ $400 vs single 7600GT @ $300, which one is more justified for price vs performance ratio?

er what?2x 7300GT @ $400 vs single 7600GT @ $300
er no, id buy a 7800 and be happy even at a current exchange rate.seems you Canadians are paying way over the odds for Graphics cards. Somthing very bad (4u) in your exchange rate.

Those prices are from the link of article you post... Go read it again yourself and more carefully this time before you make another statement...
