Hi,
Have a computer thats going on 4 years years now and I'm looking to up upgrade my 64MB Nvidia Geforce2 MX 400 graphics card. I have a CRT monitor, Asus A7A266 motherboard and recently added an extra 512 DDR PC2100 ram and installed Win XP pro.

Looking to spend up to £100/$200, does anyone have any recommendations that are compatible with this system? How much better can you go until the processor speed starts to hold it back?

Many Thanks

Best route is to upgrade not just the graphics card, but the motherboard, CPU and the ram too (PC2100 won't cut it).

If a major upgrade is not your intent at this time, I suggest getting a 9550 or 9600 Pro and that's it, check out Newegg's refurbished section for some good deals.

I can't afford a major overhaul at the moment, but thanks for the advice about the graphics card.

Just out of interest, would a newer motherboard and CPU be able to run the old ram, or are the speeds not compatible.

Thanks again

You could run your old parts on a new board...you just wouldn't be able to take advantage of the new board's potential. If you got an nForce2 board that's capable of 200MHz+ FSB, you might be able to reclock your 1400MHz Athlon T-bird from 10.5 x 133MHz to 7.0 x 200MHz, but your PC2100 would hold you back...you'd need PC3200 RAM.

Look what $33 will get you:
