Actually there are a few games on the market that will not work on a 64 bit system. From memory, Crysis is one of them. Crysis downloaded from Steam will only work in 32 bit. Check the game's system requirements and ensure it will work with a 64 bit operating system to avoid disappointment.

You did not get punked. 64 bit OS's are relatively new, and there are not a lot of games that are 64 bit yet. 64 bit adoption will take place over a long period of time as 32 bit OS's become the exception instead of the norm. However, even with a 32 bit game your 64 bit OS could help because you could have more than 3 GB of ram available for your system.

And, as a correction, "games for windows" doesn't mean it's 64 bit. I have been running 64 bit Vista for 2 years and have many "games for windows" games, and none of them are 64 bit. And crysis (even downloaded from steam) works fine on Vista 64. In fact, I have yet to find a game that wouldn't work on 64 bit Vista.
