Subject: 5 FPS in Doom 3 with new PCOS: Windows X¨PCPU/Ram: Barton 3200, 1024 Mb RAM |
Comment: Hi, I just bought a Barton 3200 with a GeForce 6800 and 1024 Mb RAM (400 Mhz) and all I get in DooM 3 is ... 5 FPS. I installed nVidia latest drivers (6.1.1.7), latest Direct X (9c) and I flashed my BIOS (motherboard is A7N8X-X). Now I'm lost...I dunno where the problem can come from...maybe some settings in the BIOS, maybe something else. please help Thanx in advance

I couldn't find new ones for the motherboard. >>Have you installed Doom III patch 1.3? nope...but I dunno if I should be worried about D3 or about the PC. What are all your power supply specs? 350w white brand. And I have 2 HDDs, 1 DVD and the Geforce (which needs an external alimentation)

Reply: (edit)I had a high quality 425 Watt power supply when i installed my 6800 ultra but every so often my computer would shut down, not restart but totally shutdown. I wound up replacing my 425 watt with a 520 watter from OCZ. Since then i have had no shutdowns and game play has improved. Nvidia reccomends atleast a 450 watt psu when running the 6800 series card. I reccomend even higher. Are specs are similar. 2500 barton OC'd to 2.6 ghz. 430 fsb 2 SATA HDD's 6800 graphics card a gig of ram Have the lambs stopped crying Clarice?

Reply: (edit)Dude, you still have a problem. I have everything turned on full (All advanced options ticked, 4xAA, 8xAF) and i still get 26,4 FPS with my cheap system. Dont run the game on ultra mode, and if you're running resolution 1600x1200 or higher, turn it down if you have AA on. Also, dont put AA higher than 4x. Hope I help.

Reply: (edit)First of all, don't bother extracting the pk3 files for doom, it doesn't do jack. Also, Nvidia changed ther PS requirements for the 6800 series a long time ago. They recommend a 350 Watt PS for the 6800 & 6800 GT & a 480 watt for the 6800 Ultra. However, different vendor specs may differ, so pay attention to what's listed on the card's packaging. Keep in mind, a high quality PS makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the stability of your rig. I'm running everything listed in my specs with an Antec TruePower 350W & have no problems what-so-ever. The first thing you should do is ensure all your drivers are up to date. Get the latest drivers for your 6800 & mobo from Nvidia's site (The nForce drivers are a seperate download on their site). Even with a standard 6800, you should be able to run D3 with all effects on (even Dynamic Lighting) at Medium quality settings at resolutions up to 1280 x 1024, especially with the rig you have. Remember, the quality settings are based on the size of your graphics card's frame buffer: Low is meant for 64MB cards, Medium for 128MB, High for 256MB, & Ultra for 512MB. Although you may be able to get away with using a higher quality setting than is meant for your card & still get good performance (I can run in High Quality mode at 1280 x 1024 & still stay at a consistent 55-60fps), this may not be the case with a card with 128MB of memory. P4C 2.6, Asus P4P800 Deluxe, 1GB Kingston Hyper X DDR400, SB Live! Value, BFG Tech 6800 GT OC
