I've recently had a debate with a couple ppl about 32 bit and 64 bit os'. But my question to you is, when you hear 64 bit from a computer stand point and then 64 bit from a nintendo stand point, there two differnt things correct?

The Nintendo 64 processor was able to operate in both 32bit and 64bit mode which is similair to today's modern pc 64bit cpu's.

It used a NEC MIPS R4300i processor that ran at 97mhz, which was a low-cost version of the NEC MIPS 4400 server processor.

So no they aren't diff in regards to a 64bit pc processor, thus is why Nintendo called that console Nintendo 64.

No. Windows Vista for example has 2 versions. Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit, but you need a 64bit processor to run a 64bit OS. Intel and AMD 64bit pc processors are 64bit/32bit meaning they are native 64bit processors that are compatible with 32bit software.

the N64 processor was the same way. it could run 64bit and 32bit games depending upon what the game developer developed the game on.

Like for example some of your N64 arcade games that had the classic games on it from years past would have ran in 32bit while modern high detailed games for the N64 would have ran in 64bit.

64bit processors have been around 20 years so that tells you how old the technology is.
