As you all must know I have an 8600GTS, and as I said before im "unhappy" with its performance in newer games like Crysis and UT2007(charts only), i'm planing on selling it, adding some more money and buying an 8800GT.
Before placing my main problem i wanto to ask you: Does it pay up? I mean, mine does great with older games but, like jam said, i'm on the borderline of being a harcore gamer so I LIKE NEWER GAMES!!! Will a notice a big leap in my gaming performance?I should wait until after Xmas right? I heard that the 9000 series are coming out therefore the 8000 ones will have to lower their prices.
If I do buy it(its just a plan so far) what subvendor should i chose:
ASUS? selling at 227€
Club3D? selling at 229€
eVGA? selling at 256€
XFX selling at 229€ (XFX has an 8800GT XXX model and its selling for 258€, what is it?)Best Regards
PS: can I expect to play crysis max quality with decent FPS like 50's?
AMD ATHLON X2 5200 2.6ghz;
ASUS M2N-E SLI;
2GB DDR800 KINGSTON;
ASUS GF8600GTS;
Seagate 7200rpm 320GB;

The price of the 8800GT isn't going to drop. The January wave of them hasn't even come. I think that even with two 8800 Ultra you can't even run Crysis max quality max resolution yet. The 8800GT doubles the performance of the 8600GTS.

WOW crysis is that demanding??What were they thinking when they made it? I mean i belive that only some luckly few can afford a SLI config of the 8800 Ultra(me NOT included).
And are you sure it wont drop? if the 9000 series do come out they will have to lower the prices, i mean i dont know much about buisness but it seems like comon sense, if a better thing comes out, the others ones drop...
Doubles...hum...maybe it inst that worthy...
You didnt say anything about the subvendors thing...
Best Regards

I run the 8800GT on a Pentium 4 and play Crysis, Prey, Bioshock and anything else I can throw at it, all on high settings with 8x AA and it's smooth as glass. The 8800GT is worth every penny!
I had no idea what I was missing with the Antialiasing.

This system has an E4300 @ 3.06GHz & 1.5GB RAM coupled with an X1950Pro & I can tell ya .... I play Crysis enjoyably on it: this is because the game is quite scalable, to buttress what was disclosed by the publisher.

Dont worry about SLI with Crysis. Getting better performance with this game with SLI turned OFF. Game is coming out with a patch that will fix this however. I'll try to remember to post my fps tonite here when I get home.

& I agree that the 8800GT is a good buy

Just ran Crysis, and getting between 35 to 50+ FPS depending on activity, and with SLI turned OFF. Standing still 50+...r&g'n w/ lots of activity, 30-40. This is with all settings at high, 2x AA, and @ 1920x1200. 8800GT should do the trick.
