I have Vista 32-bit installed on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz with 3gb of ram and a Nvidia 8800 gts 320mb video card. I run most recent games fine but Crysis runs like crap. I get about 20 fps with everything on high and under Directx 9. Under Directx 10 I get 10 or less fps on high. I know Crysis is a demanding game but I would like to get more fps.
I am thinking of changing my 8800 gts 320mb for 2 8800 gt, but I don't know how much of a difference I will see.
So, my question is this:
Given the computer I have, how much will gaming performance increase if I were two exchange my 8800 GTS 320mb for 2 8800 GT?Thanks

Well, I have a couple other games that do not run as well as I wish they would. Also, more games will be coming out soon, and these will most likely require something better than my GTS 8800 320mb. I guess I forgot to mention I am a heavy gamer :).

there would no point in spending that kind of money. just overclock that card like crazy. i got mine running at 630/1410/1840 and it runs most things great at full settings except crysis which is best served on medium.

Why would you need 2 GT's? I have a computer almost identical to yours, Crysis runs like a dream.
My specs:

2GB RAM
8800GT
P5N-E SLI (nForce 650i)
WinXP SP2
I dont see why Crysis wont run smoothly for you.

So one 8800GT should do it? Nec, do you by any chance play
Oblivion? If so, how does it runs for you?

One GT should be fine. I play Oblivion aswell, runs just as smoothly as Crysis.
Everything on high settings, no lag/stuttering and so on!
Personally, i think Windows XP is best for a gaming machine, but many agree/disagree with this.

only 2x sli??? I ask lol
imagine how upset these chaps were to find 3x sli @ 35fps was just 'playable'

"Windows XP is best for a gaming machine"
I think so too, but I am stuck with Visat :O. One more
question Nec, do you know at what fps you run those games?

gustavito....I like where your thinking is at. Spend the money and reap the benefits. I suggest 2 GTX's for Xtreme performance. Not cheap but who cares. People spend this kind of money on Starbucks each year.

its simply a waste of money to get any form of sli. he has a perfectly decent card especially when overclocked with riva. i have vista as well and trust me it runs games fine except cyrsis of course but as a wise gamer once said, "even gods pc cant run crysis on full settings". and by full settings i mean dx10 enabled. my advice is stick to what u got. wait a few months for the next graphics card refresh. though the longer amd takes to make a decent card the more time nvidia will take with making profits on 2 year old hardware. though it is ur money to spend. think about it this way, by summer ur sli setup will be obsolete cause 1 card will be able to smack it around and be able to play crysis perfectly fine. also ull be stuck waiting for decent sli drivers for vista from nvidia which still have sli issues with crysis.

As jam suggested: just lower your damn settings.
FYI, other than the stroke of ego or immature bragging rights, there is nothing that spectacular about being able to run every game at the highest possible settings. Enjoying a game is more about immersion, experience & last but not least; its replay value. Arguably, you can get all that & some on your (2.4GHz) Q6600 with 3GB of RAM & a (320MB) 8800GTS.
I play Crysis smoothly on this machine & all I have is the E4300 OC'ed to 3.2GHz, an X1950Pro & 1.5GB of DDR2 memory. Do realize, for every reckless & irrational response from naive folks like aCi11i3s: you will get 10 articulate & helpful ones pointing you in the right direction to arriving at an informed decision.
Good luck!

'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."
This has become my favourite quote :).

How about you try to update your Video card drivers first... if it doesn't run as smooth as you want it to be then try to buy one 8800GT card. if it still doesn't run smoothly then put another 8800GT card. You have to be careful with SLI thu,, since not all games support that technology which means you won't be able to take advantage of your configuration in some games. it's always safer going for a single video card i guess.

i have 8800 gts 320 mb, nforce 680i lt sli, core 2 duo e6750, and 2 gigs ram. cam it play crysis at any reasonable frame rate/resolution

windows xp (sp2)
pentium D 3.0ghz
3g kingston ddr2 800@666
evga 8800gt 512 ddr3for me crysis plays like a dream with mostly high settings @ 1280 by 1024 with 4AA but towards the end of the game i experience alot of lag but i can't complain considering i'm using a pentium D. i'm hoping the core2 extremes will fall in price by the end of the year. i found out in benchmark testing that an 8800 gt outfperforms a gts especially in crysis by 15 frames or so... so my guess is that having 2 gt will be incredible if you have the right cpu to back it up. you have to remember crysis was built solely for visuals to show off the computers next gen graphics and the game recommends sli with a core2 extreme. you're looking at 1000s of dollars. just be patient and wait for the hardware prices to fall. until then there are plenty of awesome games that can be maxed out with the 8800s. have some fun with the other games out there. crysis is just ways ahead of its time...
