Hi (Again),
I can buy a Raedon 9600XT 128mb for $229 (Australian) or for a extra $26 I can get the same card with 256 mb.
Should I spend the extra $$$ or just go with 128mb Im wanting to play Invisable war and soon Doom 3 and whatever else I find.
This is as far as my budget stretches by the way..
Your opinions please.....

It may be 256 but the 9600 is not that great anyway?

It's certainly the best in his price range.

I would say the performance benefit from the extra ram will be marginal at best.

Don't know what your budget limit is, but if you could stretch just a little higher on price you could afford a 9800 pro (if prices are comparable to the UK, anyway). I just bought a 9800p for £120, which is about 300 aussie dollars.

Most games dont really even utilize the 256Mb cards to their fullest yet, so the performance difference wont be very significant. The one game I know of that would use the 256Mb is DOOM3 on Ultra Quality, but that actually needs a 512Mb card [no, it doesn't exist] to run at its best. The only time the extra ram comes in handy is if you are planning to run games at very high resolutions (1600x1200 and above), and even then it still wont make much of a difference, but it may make a difference in the future. But for $26, its probably worth it (i think, i dont live in USA). Actually, cant you get a Geforce 6800 128Mb for around $200? If so, get that, otherwise, i'd probably go for the 256Mb.

Thermaltake 360W PSU

I believe the GeForce 5700 ULTRA is better than the 9600xt, and in the same price range?

The 9600xt is better in most games but it does get beaten in some by the 5700 Ultra. If their resonably the same price id go with the 9600xt, it also has less power consumption.

And in response to 'livingdecay' he lives in Australia, as do I. And the 6800 costs round about $800 - $1,000 here.

Hi again,
Thanks for the responses,From a earlier post that jam replied to i went to the digital daily site and decided that the 9600XT was the card for me, I did look at the 5700 ultra and have compared the 2 and yes the 5700 ultra does appear to be slightly better BUT Ive decided to go the 9600XT to try the Raedon I have Nvieda Allready and everyone seems to go with Raedon so it must be better????
The 5700 ultra is allso slightly more expensive aswell, And yes you can say well why not fork out a few bob more and go with the 9800....simple...ive run out of budget, I was initally only wanting to spend no more than $150 so $255 is allready way to mutch (SHHHHHHHHH I havent told my wife yet...LOL..:P) so their is no question that the 9800 is not in the running for me...maybee in another couple of years when I build my next machine.
Oh BTW I just finished playing the DOOM 3 demo and if anyone realy cares I ran it on my current Nvidia Gforce4 MX440 (64mb).....LOL Was a bit dodgy but quite playable...but i suspect the quality has been stripped down a bit on the demo so u rush out and buy the full version b4 you realise your grafix card cant handel it..:P
Any way Im looking forward to the full version...Was "Fun"..:P
Ok thaks guys and gurls..
