Thank you very much!

Canon assure me that the Windows 2000 drivers work with XP. Sure they do - with XP Home Edition but with identical BIOS and mboard I cannot get them to work with XP Professional. The problem is consistent and repeatable. The install works until a reboot when wps errors with 'port lpt1 is not exist'. That wording exactly.
If anyone else has the same problem drop me a line and I'll lean on Canon.

Hi,
I got exactly the same problem with the German version of XP Home Edition. After a reboot it says "LPT1: Does not exist" (using the Canon-LBP 660 driver for Win 2000). Has anybody got a sollution, yet? I'd appreciate any help.

Hi Lars, hi Prasit,
here is the URL for the download of Canon's driver for the LBP-660 for Win2000. As stated before this driver doesn't seem to work with XP:

http://www.canon-europa.com/cgi-bin/CEDD/list-systems.cgi?catid=10&productid=203

I phoned Canon Germany today and they said that the drivers are developed in Japan and if it is so that the Win2000 driver doesn't work with WinXP they don't see any other sollution than selling the printer and buy a new one. Canon is really caring for customers, aren't they?

Anyway, somebody told me to install some standard HP drivers. It hasn't worked out on my system. Does anybody got some experience on this topic, though? Any help appreciated still.

And beb, would you please mail me your driver software? Have you installed any MS hotfixes for XP, yet?

Cheers, hoping for answers,
Christian

After experiencing the same problems as described above, I looked around on several forums.

The driver on the url below did the trick, and now it's working fine.

ftp://ftp.canon.ch/pub/support/winlbp/nt2000_660_eng.exe

btw: I'm using a Dutch version of XP pro.

Delete the printer, install this driver, ignore the signed driver -logo- messages of XP, reboot -power down-, and it worked for me.

It works for me too, im using a US version of Windows XP. But i have seen the errors before. And i don´t think the 2000 drivers are 100% stable in windows xp. But i have solved it this way, when the problems occurs im running 2 bat files (or ofcourse u can make only one). The first one does.
net stop spooler, and the second does.
net start spooler. And it works every time after that, just in those cases that an error occurs ofcourse.

Thanks Tony, your tip is working very well.

The win2k drivers are indeed not stable.

But with net stop spooler and net start spooler the LPT not Exist is history.

To make the batch files and -if you want- the link on your desktop, try the following.

Start>Run>echo net stop spooler > C:\stopprinter.bat
en press ok.

Then do the same again but then:
Start>Run>echo net start spooler > C:\startprinter.bat
en press ok.

Then:
Click the right mouse button on a empty space on your desktop click new>short cut>C:\startprinter.bat>next>next.

Do the same againg for stopprinter.bat

and then you are finished.

You are my life-belt, lol. I have exactly the same problem with LBP-660 French, XPPro French as well. It works when I install. Afyter reboot, noway, you have to uninstall and install again, without reboot. As long as you don't switch off it goes fine. Until next reboot. Gosh, haven't I phoned hotline to hear them say: it should work.

Hi Gerrie, hi Tony, hi Joe and hi all the others!

Thanks for your postings but it seems they don't help with me. I tried both, the Canon driver for the LBP-660 for Win 2000 on the canon.com site and the driver at ftp://ftp.canon.ch/pub/support/winlbp/nt2000_660_eng.exe.
Neither one of them works on my XP (German Home) System. I also tried your hints with those .bat files. Maybe I'm just stupid, but to repeat it:
1) I created two .bat files
2) The first reading "echo net stop spooler" (without "")
3) the second reading "echo net start spooler" (again without "")
4) I saved those files as c:\x1.bat and c:\x2.bat and tried to run them after every failure message I got.
5) I reinstalled, removed and rebooted with each and and every drivers I could find.
6) It still does not work.

I'd appreciate any help from you experts, because it seems I alone can't handle it. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your answers,
Cheers,
Christian

G'day, I have found that if you have problems installing peripherals under XP PRO you can usually do it by booting the system into safe mode and installing the drivers, when the system reboots after installing the drivers it may fail, if it fails try loading the drivers again but force the system into safe mode a second time.
hope this helps.
Laszlo

Christian,

You should not use the Echo command......then it will work fine.....Echo sends the next sentence to the screen and that next sentence is the issue ..........

Can anyone explain to me how to get a Canon LBP-660 printer to work with Windows XP ?
I'd appreciate any help.
I have read all the comments on this forum and on others, I managed to creat the "startprinter" and "stopprinter" files on my desktop, downloaded the file from the ftp.ch folder.
These steps, being an almost computer illiterate have been quite hard :)) ... and still the printer doesn't work at all.

I need someone's help please, and, if I am not asking too much...try to explain the steps as if you were trying to teach it to your dog how to do it. Probably your dog will learn quicker then me.

Thanks to all.

Alessandro

This is how you make your Canon LBP660 to work with Windows XP (all versions):
1. Download and install Canon LBP-660 driver for Windows 2000.
2. Disable the intrrupt use of this driver, this is how you do that:
Control Panel>Systems>Hardware>device Manager>COM & Ports>LPTx>Port Settings
Check "Never use an Itrerrupt"
3. reboot
And it will work
