Word and Excel gltch

"My Computer" shows my thumbdrive, but suddenly Word and Excel do not. Refreshing "My Computer" and rebooting the PC with the Flashdrive installed does not help either. What is keeping Word & Excel from suddenly not "seeing" the falsh drive when all other apps & my PC can?
