Comment: Windows 98 se doesn't see the driver (the .sys file) for the linksys nic card i'm trying to install. I've tried 2 pci slots and downloaded the file from the net as well as exploring the install cd. Windows will not see the driver file in any directory I place it in. When I explore the install cd It shows three files when there are 4 total the .sys file being the one I need that is not showing up. I can however see the file in any directory I put it in when I use ms-dos. when i choose the location and enter the dir command the file is there, it's just windows that doesn't see it. I'm wondering if I can instal the driver using dos because I can copy the file. Or if there is a way to fix windows not being able to recognize this files existance. I tried to install a driver for it using the windows 98 cd which gave me the same result. thnx in advance :)

Reply: (edit)Question: When I turn on the computer, a message pops up before the icons show, that says: "Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Window application. The Windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using it through uninstall or its setup program. If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file. Z:VVINESD.386. Press a key to continue." How do I reinstall the missing file and what is "z:C"? -- KO Answer: I don't know what winesd.386 is, but
