Click "My Computer" double click your hard drive and navigate to c:\windows\system32\config.nt
Right click config.nt and click open. Choose to select the program from a list. Choose Notepad. A text file will open with a bunch of lines with REM on the left. Scroll all the way to the bottom and add this line.device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
Do not add REM at the beginning
This is what mine looks like
QUOTE
dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=40Click file in the top left of the window and click save. Exit out.
Next in the same system32 folder find autoexec.nt
Open this file in the same manner with notepad and scroll to the bottom of the text and add this line:lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx.exe
Do not add REM at the beginning
Save this file the same way and exit out of the window.
Next look around in the c:\windows\system32 directory (you should still be in it) and make sure you have
himem.sys
dosx.exeIf you do then reboot your pc and run your programs, If you do not then let us know and I will find a way to get them off the XP installation disk or from somewhere else.
This should work but if you don't actually have himem.sys and dosx.exe in the system32 folder then it will not work until they are there.
