Why cant i get rid of voodoo

Hi everyone new to this...
got this pc from a friend and formated the hard drive as you do. All good till i get windows 98 running and it disides its only going to give me 16 colours and a maximum screen size of 640x480.
Its telling me on startup that ive got a voodoo 3 graphics card in a pci socket (which i havent) and i cant find any way of removing the bios. Please, please, please help.
