Okay, so the other day I installed a agme and everything worked fine. When I went to play it, the intro movie, the menu's....everything worked great. But when I actually went to play the game, it said "DirectX Surface Unavailable"

I have no idea what that means. I was told it may be that my video driver was not up to date. So...long story short....I messed up (I don't know how) and suddenly my video driver, sound driver, mouse driver, and keyboard driver went missing.

I ended up locating my mouse and keyboard drivers off gateway's support site. I also located my sound driver off gateway's website, but the damn thing won't install. I've downloaded it 3 seperate times and each time I get the same thing.

When I begin the install, it asks me for my Sound Blaster disk, which I do not have. I've went through the read me file, and the troubleshooting and have found no resolution to this. DxDiag shows that I have a Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128. Creative's website has no drivers for this card.

As far as my video driver...I can't find a single thing for my video driver. I have a STB Velocity 128. STB Systems, Inc. went to 3dFx....3dFx went to nVidia. nVidia has no drivers for my card, and I can't locate any online. I was told that the nVidia Riva 128 series is the same, so I downloaded that driver and it worked, but...I'm still getting the same "DirectX Surface Unavailable" error.

Can anyone help me shed some light on this?

Also,

I have used this game on my computer before and it worked fine...but now it doesn't. And I know that should be the least of my worries, since I can't hear anything, defrag or scandisk either right now due to partitioning issues, and I'm on dialup. Basically, my computer is 8 years old and completely F.U.B.A.R.'ed. God please put it out of it's misery and send me a brand new ALIENWARE for free!

Hi Stabgotham.

Soundblaster PCI 128 -

What game is it that won't run? It may be you need to get a patch or update for it if the game itself is causing the error message.

Also what version of DirectX are you using?

The newest version 9 seems to have given some older computers problems since it doesn't work well with older video cards.

I would stick with version 8.1 with Windows 98. ( If you have a newer version than 8.1 you cannot go back to an earlier version. )
