Comment: Recently, my computer broke down and almost everything was gone: all the installations, updates, drivers, etc. I basically reinstalled everything. For some reason I can't change my resolution and it is stuck on 640 x 480 and it only has 16 colors. Before my computer broke, I could always change the display settings from 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1024 ranging from 256 colors to 2 colors. Now, I can't do anything and it seems like it's stuck on default. I also tried checking if the computer locked the resolution to 640 x 480, but it wasn't. Does this problem relate to the video card/graphics adapter? I have a IBM 2237 C71 on Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) as of now. Does anyone know where to upgrade the monitor driver or graphics adapter so I can change my resolution to 1024 x 768 with 256 colors?

Reply: (edit)'Standard PCI Graphics Adapter' is generic (and pretty much meaningless). If your adapter is integrated, you can search the IBM model number - otherwise, Everest can analyze your hardware You need the correct display driver - monitor 'drivers' aren't exactly essential Science is built up with facts, as a house is with stones. But a collection of facts is not more a science than a heap of stones is a home
