usermode access to I/O ports on XP

Microsoft has for security reasons prohibited usermode access to I/O ports on NT based platforms. UserPort.sys is a kernel mode driver for Windows NT/2000/XP Prothat gives usermode programs access to I/O ports. This makes it possible to access hardware directly from a normal executable in the same way as under Windows 95/98/ME. Userport.sys doesn't work for XP home which is what I am trying to do. How do I access the parallel port from my program when using XP home? Thanks
