Try reading this blog. It concerns on USB recognition problems.Want A Weekly Update on Latest System Security Problem http://www.systemsecurityinstitute.org

thank you for your replay but these links have no solution to my problem.
i don't have a "device not recognized" problem.
when connecting the usb it is recognized it just doesnt show as a disc and i can not access it...

i will try to explain my problem again maybe i will be more clear this time:
when I conntect a usb device (my camera / usb key) it to my computer. I was always able to see it automatically via My Computer as a removable disk when connected and turned on. Well, now I it is NOT recognized in My Computer. The computer makes that bell sound and said the new device was properly installed and ready to use, but it doesn't appear.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP3. Any suggestions to get my computer to show me my camera / usb key again, like before?thanks for your help...
Michael
