Comment:

I have recently upgraded a community internet cafe from Windows 98 to Windows XP. Ever since this upgrade, USB Mass Storage Devices (ie: digital cameras) don't seem to work. I have spent over 120 hours updating, reinstalling, configuring and playing with the jumper setting and still had no luck. We are the only public access terminals available in our city with WinXP but are close to converting back to 98.

We have 31 computers, all with the same configuration and image. I have put it down to a lack of USB Mass Storage Device drivers as none appear in the Device Manager, only 3x USB Root Hub and 3x VIA rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller.

The OS detects when a camera is connected and always fails to load drivers. This has been tested with over 50 different cameras.
The mainboard is ECS EliteGroup P4VMM2 and has 2 rear USB ports.

Any help will be appreciated

TIA

Hello!

I have the same problem like you.
My computer have Windows 98SE, and Chipset Intel 815EP.
A few months ago I installed drive for Mini PenDrive made by Hama. It worked very well before I installed drive for USB card reader for camera (Kyocera). After this time the Pen Drive haven't worked. My computer haven't identified this tool.
I'm thinking that this is the same problem with USB Mass Storage Device.

What do you do with your problem? Is it sill on your computer?

Please give me same information What can I do.

Thanks!
Piotr

I solved my problem a few days ago. It was caused by a security setting that I overlooked in XP that prevented users from unloading device drivers thereby not allowing a user to load another device for the already used USB port.

Have you tried re-installing the pen-drive?
also check to see if you have a maximum number of drives set, I believe it is in the config.sys file.

Someone also recommended to me a program called Card Wizard which I believe would suit you to a tee as you are using multiple devices.

Hi Aaron,

I was curious if you could tell met a little bit more about the security settings.

How did you change your security settings, and which is it?

I seem to be having the same issue.

Thanks,

Hugo.

I also have the same problem
The best explanation I have come up with is that its a cheap drive, but I dont believe that, since 98 handled it OK
I am still looking for appropriate usb mass storage drivers on the web, although i'm sure it shouldnt need them
In devman, it has been detected as USB Flash Disk Embedded Hub, I'm sure it should be Mass Storage Device
