Help! I.T. imbecile in need of advice. Somehow my USB port is not recognising anything and appears not to be working. Diagnostics check as OK but when I plug in the printer the recognition sound does not occur and printer is not listed as being connected, despite being correctly installed. I have tried reinstalling hardware from the disc I got with the Notebook but get the error: "Problem installing Intel (R) 82801 CA/CAM USB 2482. The data is invalid". Could the actual port be damaged? Do I need a new driver? If so where can I get one? Is there such thing as an attachment which will allow me to plug a USB into another port (the one with the pins) so I can download music to MP3 player (and if so, is this a good idea)? Any help is much appreciated.

First call the Customer Support of the printer's company and request a new driver disk. The driver might be corrupted. If that doesen't work then your USB port is probably damaged. Buy a replacement from Dell.
