Ghost 2003 doesn't recognize my USB 2.0 external drive when booting from DOS or Windows XP!

Ghost seems to work ok when using the external HDD with Firewire &/or USB 1.1. It will not however, work when connected with USB 2.0. From what I can tell, it apparently never loads the USB 2.2 adapter to connect the drive.

I've tried most of Symantec's Knowledge base suggestions - so far, without any success. They talk a lot about incompatability when both USB 1.1 & 2.0 are installed on the PC. This appears to be what I've encountered since I have both.

USB 1.1 & Firewire are built into my Asus motherboard. USB 2.0 is on an Adaptec PCI DuoConnect board which has a combination of firewire & usb adapters. Firewire &/or USB 1.1 through both the Adaptec &/or built-in Asus adapters all seem to work ok. Only the USB 2.0 setup fails to work.

I'm sure there are many that use a HDD in an external housing with a USB 2.0 adapter but it doesn't work for me. Symantec just blows it off as a consequence of trying to use their Iomega EHCDI driver with a mixed USB system.

Maybe so, but how do others get theirs to run. Most likely (I think) with driver changes. Can some one help me to get this thing going? It would be much appreciated.

Best regards, Dick

Dan,

I need to correct a few things which I discovered after posting this message.

The DI1000DD.SYS entry in config.sys was typed incorrectly as D11 (eleven) rather than DI.

I don't know what happened when I tried to edit Autoexec.bat before. I tried again & the editor opened the text this time. The 'banana' error resulted from my failure to delete it from autoexec.bat.

Regardless, it still doesn't connect with my external HDD in DOS. It just says it didn't find the target devices.
I apologize for the confusion I may have caused.

Best regards, Dick
