I am having trouble with updating my sis 7012 audio driver. I downloaded update for the driver (v1.12d 2005-06-09) from sis site.
After I run setup.exe it starts coping files and suddenly gives error message that program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down, here are the details:GENERIC caused a general protection fault
in module RMDEVICE.exe at 0001:00000780.

After restart when I open list of drivers from control panel there's still the old audio driver. The only difference is that I can't hear a sound anymore. Any suggestions?
My sis product information:North Bridge Chipset: M661FX/M661MX
South Bridge Chipset: 963/963L

go into SAFE MODE hit F8 just after BIOS and before Windows slash screen.
Remove the Sound Entries relating to the SiS7012 from Device Manager and if there is an entry in add/remove programs remove that as well.
Reboot PC and when the add new hardware wizard runs poit it to the folder you unpacked the driver files too.
good luck........but are you sure it is a 7012, maybe could try the driver from the mobo manufacturer instead !!
