OS: W98SE
CPU/Ram: Intel P3 / 256MB
Model/Manufacturer: Dell / Dimension 4100
Comment:
Computer won't boot in Normal Mode. If I do a 'step by step' boot, it hangs after turbovcd.vxd driver is loaded. I've narrowed this problem down to modem card. My modem does not seem to work, or at least I've had many problems over the years. If I do modem test, results as follows:
Check registry "Warning"
Check Modem "Passed"
Check Port, Dialtone & Hardware, all "Failed"

I don't use the modem, nor do I want to invest in another card for this box.

However, I do need to boot into normal mode. The more I try to fix, the worse off I seem to be. For instance, not sure if this is related, but I'm trying to upgrade my graphics card. I did this sucessfully this past summer, but when I got black screen, I thought it was graphics card? So I restored to original driver, now can't do the upgrade, computer tells me to reset my monitor to a basic VGA setup?

At this point, I need some expert advice. Thx to anyone who can help.
