Is there a proper driver for Syquest SparQ 1.0 drive for WinXP? I've tried to install the drive using driver for Win2k but the system halt after installation completed. Please help. Thank you.

I am also looking for drivers for Win XP Pro for a SyQuent SparQ 1.0 GB parallel ... please let me know if there is a 2000/XP driver.

I saw a 7 June 2002 post of "Graeme" on www.driverforum.com/inputdevice/34.html.
He said the a WinXP driver for the Sparq drive could be found at www.scmmicro.com.
I downloaded today the (free) PP-ATA "product"
for Win2000 and WinXP that is on that
site in the zip file Ephdw2k.zip. I unzipped it and used the WinXP new hardware wizard to find and install this driver for my parallel port Sparq drive. It works fine. As Graeme wrote, you can even FAT32 format the Sparq cartridge.

Peter,
First things first... PETER, I think I love you!
Second, here is the link to the page that has the driver peter spoke about:
http://www.scmmicro.com/downloads.html?PID[0]=3&PID[1]=4&PID[2]=17&PID[3]=36&PID[4]=35&PID[5]=16&s1=8&s2=13#PP-ATAPIEphdw2k.zip is the file you're looking for regarding the external/parallel version.
I would provide the link directly, but I am sure that they would change the location as soon as it is discovered that they have given THE solution to this quandary.
Have a great day, and thanks again Peter.

I downloaded the ephdw2k.zip file, but I'm unclear about the procedure for using it. The questions that the XP Wizard asks me don't seem to work for me (it doesn't seem to even see the device, although the Startup Disk is running and the printer works). Should I be using the Sparq Install floppy in some way? If so, how do I tell it about the new driver?
All my migration files are on the Sparq disks, so I'm really hung up.

I am having a similar problem trying to get my Sparq up and running with XP Pro. I don’t have the original install floppy. When I first attached the tape drive my PC “saw” the tape’s contents, but now it can’t even find the drive
I downloaded ephdw2k, but The wizard doesn’t find the files valid for installation and doesn’t see that hardware Any advice?John

John,
I got mine working after MANY tries. What finally worked for me was to:
- disconnect the printer and SparQ
- using Device Manager, uninstall a 'question-marked' device with an unintelligible name - I think it had a "V" in it (which must have resulted from my prior efforts to get the Wizard to see the drive)
- reconnect the SparQ
- restart the system, at which point, for the first time, XP Pro recognized a new device
- the Wizard even asked if I wanted to use the ephdw2k driver that it found in Windows\Drivers, I said (God) Yes!
- Presto! The Wizard informed me that it had successfully installed my SparQ drive
- I checked Windows Explorer, it had a Drive E: SparQ and I could access its contents
- reconnect the printer
- P.S. From some earlier offline advice from Peter: forget all the floppy and Start-Up cartridge software, you don't use it (so you don't get the nice Mount and Unmount interface - you have to turn off the drive, press the button on the front to release the cartridge, pop the cartridge out by pressing up on its ridge with your fingernail, pop in the new cartridge and press down and fiddle with the front button to get it to pop back out, then restart the drive).
- also from Peter's advice, when you change cartridges, XP doesn't refresh its drive directory, so restart the system so XP will see the new cartridge contentsKeep trying it WILL work!
Tom.
