I recently upgraded to Windows XP from Windows ME on my HP 8860. The upgrade needs me to flash my Samsung CD-RW driver (which I did). Now, BIOS no longer recognizes either drive (my CD-RW or my DVD, which I think are chained together inside the computer on the same (I think) IDE card. I have tried to force them to work inside BIOS, but that doesn't seem to work (I'm guessing at options.. that can't be good, can it?)
The flashing failed at the last little bit. Now, I've tried to "re-flash" and it tells me that it can't find the drive (of course, since BIOS can't find it, XP can't either, so it can't pass that information on to the Flash program.
Any thoughts? I'm pretty stumped.

Looks like I'm in good company!
I'm having the same problem, both drives: Hitachi DVD-ROM GD-7500 and SamSung CD-RW SW-208f drives are not recognized by my WinMe system. When I tried to install the update, sw208f_9.exe, a message "ASPI was not Found" popped up. I then went to Adeptec's website downloaded aspi_v470.exe and installed it. It installed fine but still received the "ASPI" error when installing CDRW update.
Very frustrating as I'm sure you all know!
If anyone can help please drop me a line to let me know. Thanks,
Donna

Yes, same problem as above. The firmware upgrade finished but now the cdr light is on all the time and the try will not open. When I try to re-flash it does not recognize the drive. Dos doesn't either. Is there anyway to clear the flash?

anyone ever figure out how to fix this problem because now...just like all the rest of you are in the same boat. The light on my CDRW has been on ever since I tried to upgrade my firmware

I was amazed when I read how many people had the same problem.I have Windows ME and an SW-208F CDWR, and am about to upgrade to XP. My computer guy, told me right from the get-go, that my CDWR wouldn't work with XP_that I would need to upgrade. However, being me, I had to check it out myself and consequently, happened on this article. I pass on the link in the hopes that it is helpful. (I am rather new to this computer business, but with my limited knowledge, it did seem relevent.(The info I am referring to,is on ASPI,and is quite a way down the page_so don't give up too soon.) http://www.emulators.com/secrets.htm#WINXP

how is this possible that all of us are having the same problem? my samsung sw-208f and sc-148 no response. tried to update, uninstall, remove, and unplug and still no luck. WHy isnt anyone fixing this. I wrote to samsung but havent heard anything yet. This is pretty crappy. If anyone know a secret to unlocking the problem, Please email me. Im a grad student and my computer is my life for grades.
thanks,
thomas
