Hello,
My system is Windows98 SE. I'm stuck with 16 bit color. I can't change neither the color or the resolution. This happened after i formatted my hard disk and reinstalled Win98SE. I don't have any CD's, or Floppy disks that contain Display Drivers or Graphics adapter drivers. Where do i find, and how do i configure my Drivers to display anything higher than 16 bit color for a "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter(VGA)."
I looked at the video card itself, and it's a Maxi Gamer Pheonix, Voodoo Banshee.

Thank You Very Much.

Look at the card and get the FCC ID number off of it and goto -- www.mrdriver.com
This may help you get the drivers you need.

As I understood, your Video Card is Voodoo Banshee? Here you can find drivers for it - "http://www.voodoofiles.com/getit.asp?id=1852&g=1&d=26&s=814291038" or when that doesn't work, try this one instead: "http://www.voodoofiles.com/1852"

For those who want to look for the FCC ID, it should be on the card itself. If not, there is a FCC ID at the back of the computer (at least mine anyway) which could be it, but I don't think so. If you can't identify your card, look at where the monitor plugs in. If there is a card there, then thats your graphics card. If not, the graphics card is in the Mother Board itself and you'll have to contact the manufactor of the motherboard and give all the info.

To Daniel: Its the card. You probably have your display set to "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)" which is the default driver. You'll have to reinstall it using the floppy disks that came with your computer. If you have no floppy disks, then find the FCC ID.
You have to find the drivers for your card, and install the drivers. When you download the software, it should come with some type of file called "Install.txt" or "Read Me.txt" or someting. Read those and it'll tell you how to install.

I got stuck today after installing an older video card to replace my broken ATI card. But when I installed it, the same old crap 16 bit color was displayed. It was hell for about 3 hours. After a lot of headaches I went here and read my card. I did not find any FCC-ID , but I did discover - there's a label on this old card that reads "Video Excel 8 Mb On Board" graphics card. The card also says - "Intel Power 3D 740".

After searching Google.com for "Video Excel 8 Mb", the first site I found I clicked, then scrolled down to the bottom and found this - http://www.abcd.com.au/video/I740.htm

at the bottom of that page, there's text that reads - Software bundled : TriSpectives 3D drawing program for Windows 95/98

I checked out the Trispectives 3D CD that came with my computer, and in the VGA folder was a folder called Intel. The CD where the device driver is setup like this - D:\VGA\INTEL\740

And the card mentions Intel 740.

(Even on the CD it says VGA Utility Drivers Intel 740)

If you even have the Trispectives CD (it says Video Excel on the CD, as well) you can install a better driver than the one Windows selects for you. This is, of course, assuming you have the right CD and card..These instructions could apply to other cards but this is specific to Video Excel cards..

To install the driver, right click on the desktop, select settings tab, click on Advance, then the adapter tab, then "Change", (choose the option search for a better driver than the one in use) checkmark specify location and click the browse button.. and select the path D:\VGA\INTEL\740\Win9x

After the computer reboots, you should be able to change some options (right click on the desktop and select properties, then click settings)

The people who reformatted their hard drives may have deleted files their computer manufacturer installed on there. I did, as well - I reformatted back in 2001, since I had the computer since 1999, it has never been reformatted. When I installed my ATI card in 2000, the old card that I took out (the one I'm using now) looked fine. And I did not remember installing any drivers. This is probably because the people who put this computer together installed the drivers from the Trispectives CD.

I suggest that everyone look through any graphics bundle CDs that came with your computer - it may seem like the CD just includes a 3D program but it might include drivers for your video card. In other words, your video card might not hav a CD or floppy that blatantly says "VIDEO CARD DRIVERS".

Not saying this is the definite solution, but if you have a Video Excel card like I have, it may be worth checking out. Whatever your card says (Intel, Video Excel, Super Duper Graphics 430000, whatever!) - do a search on google.com for it, and find out what software the card has! Yeah, sounds simple - it may not be, but don't give up!

Email me at red-pines@att.net if you need any help!

My operating system is Windows Millenium (ME)
and my computer is stuck at 16 colors also, I've been all over the internet looking for the driver I need and cannot find it, I also looked inside my computer, which I still have torn apart and found where my monitor plugs in and it's just a black box with no numbers or manufaturers name or anything, I've also spent several hours on the phone with Hewlett Packard (I have a HP Pavilion 8260) and I spent a lot of time on the phone with Sony (I have a Sony Trinitron Multiscan CPD-15sx1 monitor) neither one of them will help me out because my computer is 5 years old, they say it's obselete.I just spent a lot of money on memory chips and stuff for my computer, I would really appreciate it if you could help me out!!!

I'm having the same problem with the above persons, after formatting my Toshiba laptap. I did try to install a VGA driver thinking it my might be compatible for the VGA of the laptap but its came out for nothing. I just wanted to know how can I determine the VGA profile of the laptap? We're can I look for a driver that might be compatible to extend to more than 16 colors? The laptat says it has a Toshiba 800x600 internal panel....

I have a "On-Board" video card, meaning that I have a Standard PCI Graphics Adapters (VGA). I am havig the same problem that many people are having. I can't get my computer off of 16 colors and 620x480 pixels when I am use to 1280x920. I am having trouble finding my FCC number and I can't really understand where it is at. I would really like someone to send me a internet address on where I can find the driver for this particular product. Thanks for the help and I would greatly appricate it.
