Hi,

My system is Windows98 SE. I got struck with 640x480 16 color. I could not change either color or resolution. This happened after i formatted my harddisk and reinstalled Win98SE. I don't have any CD's Floppy disks that contain Display Drivers or Graphics adapter drivers. Where do i found Drivers to display 256color or higher for "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter(VGA)".

Thank You Very Much.

Sounds like you need to find out what video card is in your machine. Then you can re-install the video drivers for that video card. I think that standard PCI Graphics Adapter is a basic Windows thing so you can at least have a picture and ability to install other drivers.

Hey Muppalla,

It should be in the dell cd resource disc I had the same problem, I reformated and fdisked or vice versa and for a couple days I couldn't figure out how to change out of giant land (the icons and what were enlarged) but somehow and I wish I knew exactly what I did but I tinkered around with the drivers in the CD Resource cd and "fixed" it. Good luck, just becareful because installing incorrect drivers makes life a pain.

hey Muppalla,

I have the exact same problem with my comp.
right now. I was wondering if you've figured anything out on how to make things work.
i dont have any cd's with drivers or anything. I've looked at my card, and it says that it is a Maxi Gamer Pheonix, it should be a Voodoo Banshee.
if you can tell me anything about what i should do, or if anyone reads this. please email me with what to do.
Thanx a ton

The problem that Muppalla has is what I have. I also have more information of my card but I have searched so many sites for drivers but no luck.

My picture Card is "S3 savage4 Pro(397) version 2.1c.07c Inc."

This information you get when you reboot your computer, the very first screen the computer displays before the bios, is the details of the picture card.

I am having the same problem above. I do not have any other graphic card in my machine. When I set go to "Control Panel" - "Display Settings" - "Colors", I only have a maximum of 16 to choose from. I have been using my computer for almost 3 years without any problems until I formated my hard disk and reinstalled Windows 95. Should I now buy a graphic card or can someone help me get around this.

ok...due to the LARGE demand for the website i find that it would be easier to just post the site here:

copy and paste:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q298837

there it is
now just like i said in my earlier "rant" (as it was described) just go to the site and follow the instructions CAREFULLY and STEP BY STEP if everything is done correctly you'll be up and running in a matter of minutes.

good luck!

OK GUYS & GALS... HERE'S THE FIX FOR THIS:
Now this is for the Dell Lattitude CPi 266D XT. More than likely, other models too.

Boot up the laptop. As soon as it shows the "DELL" startup BIOS screen, press F2. This will take you to BIOS setup. Just make note of the video card installed. Mine says, Neomagic 2160 (2mb). The same deal with the Sound (audio) if your having problems with it. I wasn't. Now, click ESC and leyt it go to the Windows desktops svreen. Right-click on the screen anywhere to go to "Properties". Once there, click on the "settings" tab in the top right. Next, go down to the bottom right to the "advanced" button and click on it. Next, choose the "adapter" tab and click on it. Next, (whew!) go to the "change" button and click on it. Choose the "show all hardware" selection and find the brand & type that closest matches your video card and select it. Then when asked for a driver disk, simply go to the Windows 9X "Windows" "Drivers" and then match up the drivers to the video card installed in your machine. That's about it, except you'll have to play with the resolution till you get the screen you want (i.e. 256 color, 16 bit high color, 600 X 800, 760 X 1024, etc.

NOW HEAR THIS!!!!!!! Everybody I am your saviour..... I had the same problem, crap graphics-standard pci blah blah blah - wel I have the answer to all your problems. thanks to this forum I realised I wasn't the only idiot who wiped his graphics card when I formatted C: drive. But guess what- I have the best upgrade and better than ever graphics- Everybody do this!!!!!!!!!!
When you reboot PC on the top left corner displays your Graphics Card (hardware). I rebooted several times to write it down as it only lasts 1-2 seconds- be patient its worth it. Mine said - ASUS AGP - V3000ZTV BIOS etc etc etc. I went to google and type in search- ASUS AGP - V3000 and voila! I found out ASUS is the Co. that has my driver. I searched their site (which was easy and found the download file that was in fact a later version. I downloaded it (it took awhile) then ran it and it installed automatcally to my Graphics. And it is much better than before. Now I'm going to do the same with my sound card as I wiped it too. Hope this helps.
Regards from down under.

Wow!!!!!! What an event. Now the sound card is another ball game altogether. How do you identify it. In the end I had to "open her up". On the sound card for me read Creative Labs CT 4810. After 2 days searching - Bingo!
Here it is: http://asia.creative.com/support/drivers/welcome
Good Luck.

only this time, i know my video card is a voodoo 2 card. and i dont know how to make that my display card instead of the stupid 16 bit Standard PCI graphics blah blah blah.
if anyone knows how to make my computer see my video card and make it work better than 16 bit, that would be AWESOME!!!
