Hi everybody. I hope you can help me....I have a problem with the sound. A month ago i had to format and reinstall windows 98 in my TOSHIBA SATELLITE 2250 because of viruses. Then I downloaded all the drivers I need from the TOSHIBA web page. I downloaded the driver Sound Driver for ESS ES1978 and I installed it properly, with all the files of the win98 cd (second edition) that the driver ask for me. But the sound doesnīt work, the driver is installed but the sound doesnt work. People of the toshiba forum didnīt give me a solution at this moment. Now, I executed in windows the quickrestore cd (i wanted to use it at the beginning but it doesnt work anymore to formatt and restart my computer i dont know why) But well, i see all the files that the cd could install and the sound driver is named as ESS Sound Driver 4.06.4023.B-RC4.
My questions are.... the two names I gave above to the drivers, is it the same drivers or they are different, because i cant find the ESS Sound Driver 4.06.4023.B-RC4 driver in the web. How can i know exactly what sound card is installed physically in my computer? can I install drivers of another sound card? Any help will be so much appreciated please, a computer without sound is kind of boring. What can I do to enable the sound?

Thanks

Serguei

This is what you have to do to install the driver properly:

1) Remove sound card from Device Manager.
2) Reboot computer. Sound card will be detected.
3) Show the system where you have the driver for your sound card. (Example C:\Unziped\Sound).
4) Whemp prompted for WIN98 CD, GO TO THE DRIVER'S FOLDER AND LOOK FOR FOLDER WIN98(There could be one folder Win98 and another Win98SE) pick the right folder and your sound card driver will work this time.

Make sure you follow my instructions very carefully.
