Sound Driver for Compaq Presario 7470

Hello! Would someone e-mail me about where I can find a dreaded sound driver for my compaq presario 7470. I have Windows 2000 professional installed on it. I thought that the bios was outdated so I went to the compaq site and downloaded the latest version for flashing the bios and updated the bios. Then I tried to download the sound driver: ESS Allegro Sound driver for the Presario from the Compaq.com Website. I downloaded a sound driver for the Presario from the Compaq.com website and loaded it to my C drive. When I go to install the driver it asks me the location of the file and I try to point to it. The sounddriver file is not extracting, it just doesn't download. I also followed a suggestion made from google.com about going to http://www.windrivers.com and try to click on the sound card icon, which I do not see. I don't see the rest of the steps either. Like clicking on the letter E alphabet and finding the ESS manufacturer and clicking on it. I basically tried to look in the sound card drivers area or tried the ESS forum. Please send suggestions and I'm sorry if I've been too detailed or vague.

You may have to doubleclick on the file first to extract the files to a directory and then go back and point to that directory when asked for the location of the file.

I updated my Presario 7470 to Windows 2000 pro also. The drivers at compaq are for Win98 only, they won't offer support for operating systems other than those that came preinstalled on the systems. Anyway when I installed Win2000. I had very poor quality audio. I found an update at the Windows Update Site that fixed my woes. http://windowsupdates.microsoft.com :) Hope it works for you too.
