Guys try this one out. It worked just fine on my machine. (PIII at 800MHz, 512 SDRAM, SBLive 5.1, WINXP Professional)
Follow these steps..tried it just yesterday and it really worked.
i. Download SM56 drivers v.83.18 for W2K
ii. Remove from hardware properties any previus installations of the modem
iii. Check registry (regedit.exe) and remove any SM56 or Motorola applications). Uninstall the software, if any, from c:\windows\motorola
iv. Update (IMPORTANT) the driver. Ignore any "digitally signed" notices.
v. Goto c:\windows\motorola and run the 2 executable files and then the registry file too that is in the same directory (VERY IMPORTANT)!!!!!!!!!!!
vi. Reboot the machine
vii. The modem should be ok now.
viii. Choose USA in dial-up (IMPORTANT) even if you live in Afganistan:)...I am in Greece and that statement has no effect
Mine does work perfectly, at full speed, the compress option in the dial-up properties is enable and there is no delay (as in Win98SE) when you make a new connction.
Even my SBLive is on the same IRQ (11) but this is no problem since no conflict is reported. I was running both applications and none problem what so ever.!!!!!!!
I don't know if the v.84.40 works if you follow the same procedure cause i didn't try it since it works perfectly even with those "old" drivers
Cheers
