im networking 2 computers and im using a hub. one computer is in the basement and the other is upstairs in a room.the connection is slow ont he 2 computers. is it because im usign long cables or theres somethin else?

Yes long cables could be the problem as signal loss can occur. To be certain move the computers next to each other using a shorter network cable and if it speeds up then it is your cable.

Are your network cards and hub 100mb/s?.

Go to your network properties and click configure on your network card. Under advanced>>connection type check if it is 100baset (not 10baset), Auto negotiate or something similar.
