I'm running windows xp (service pack 2 installed). when i try and install the drivers for the onboard sound (SIS 7012) it says error: "the name is alredy in use as either a service name or service display name".
The motherboard is an ECS k7s5a (SIS 735 chipset).

Dave The ECS K7S5A is not approved for use with Windows XP. Look at the box.It will say XP approved if a motherboard is. Check the ECS website. Use Windows 2000 with K7S5A it works. Hope you were not able to register that computer with Microsoft with XP. You could change the motherboard but Microsoft won't let you re-register. Just another reason to use Win 2000.
